How to Plan a Themed Date Night

Theme: Divergent

My Wonderful Husband surprised me and is taking me to see the movie “Insurgent”. I have been anticipating this sequel to Divergent since I read the book series by Veronica Roth and seen the first movie! So needless to say I was ecstatic when my hubby said he was taking me out!

Since Quinton was taking care of the entertainment, I started on the food:)

I went Pintresting to find Divergent themed food. I found an awesome blog, that has great Divergent themed party ideas! So I catered them to fit my date night.

This is our Menu:

  • Drink: Amity Apple Cider  ( I just mixed Apple Cider with Rum and Lemon Lime Soda;more spiked cider ideas here.)
  • Food: Dauntless Hamburger, topped with Erudite Bleu Cheese and Abnegation Fried Egg. Served on an Abnegation Flat Bread Bun.
  • Dessert: Candor Cookies and Cream Ice Cream

We will start the night off with dinner and then watch the DVD of the first in the series, Divergent and then go to the theater to see the premier of Insurgent!!

So, to wrap up: All you need to plan a themed Date Night, is an idea, entertainment and a menu.

It doesn’t take much to make a normal Thursday night into a fun time for 2:)

Cost: The Movie tickets were $25 for both. I already had rum, hamburger, eggs, and lemon lime soda at home, so for the rest of the groceries it cost $13. Total Cost for an awesome themed Date Night: $38!!!

I cant wait for our date night tomorrow!!

Party Planning 101: Decorations Part 2

Hello Party Planners!

I wanted to just take a moment and talk a little more about party decorations. If you read my post, Party Planning 101: Decorations, you know that I planned my older sister’s baby shower recently. I had so much fun and I made almost all of the decorations myself. In the other post, I talked about the tissue paper pom-poms. Which are super easy to make and really tie in the look of whatever party you are throwing. For my sister’s baby shower everything was pink and orange. So when I decided to make my own garland, of course it had to be shades of pink and orange!

As I was planning and looking for inspiration, I had seen these circle garland on etsy.

il_340x270_477536542_q51mI think these are sooo cute! However when I was making them, I did not have the patience or time to sew the circles together like that… So this is how I did it:

Supplies: Card Stock, White Thread, Scotch Tape, Poster Board, something round to trace and Scissors.

1st: Trace as many circles as you can fit on the card stock. My circles were around 2 1/2 inches.

2nd: Cut out the circles you traced.

3rd: Tape one strand of thread to the back of the circles. I did 9 circles per strand, with each circle about 2-3 inches apart.

I, for some reason, forgot to take any “real” pictures of the party decorations. (Don’t worry I am still kicking myself) So, I apologize for the horrible picture quality!

IMG_20141221_201743I really liked the idea of using the garland as a back drop. As you can see I used the circle garland along with party streamers and gift ribbons. I also made some heart shaped garland the same way I made the circle garland. I taped a top part of each line of garland to a strip of orange poster board, in a random pattern. It was a little hard to transport, and to keep them from tangling. But I was happy with how it turned out!

treat bar blurrySorry its so blurry!! this is the best pic I could find from a friend. This is the treat bar. All treats fit with the pink and orange theme.

I hope this was a bit helpful! I will be posting more about the treat bar and the fun Baby shower games we played soon!

How to Plan a Fun, Cheap Trip

I love traveling, however, more times than not, I don’t have a ton a cash on hand that I can use to get away from day to day life.

These are some pointers I have learned from experience!

1st: Decide where your want to go. For whenever I need some time away, I pick a town that is in driving distance but is still far enough away that I can forget about my life at home. Usually around 3 hours away..  However I am attending a special convention out-of-state next month, so we will talk about that too.

2nd: Now that you know where your going, look for lodging. The cheapest way to stay some where is to camp. My husband and I love to camp and get in touch with the great outdoors, but I know its not for everyone. You can easily find hotels in the area where you want to stay. I like expedia. Another option is to stay in a cabin. If you book last minute, you can find some awesome deals. The down side to that, however, is that you run the risk of the cabin of your choice already being booked.  For my trip in February we are staying in a hotel. If you decide to do that, its probably best to stay at a hotel that has breakfast (when you are booking your room, make sure you ask if the breakfast is included in the price or if it is extra). I really think having your breakfast at the hotel saves you money in the long run. When we camp or stay in a cabin, I make sure to bring breakfast food to make. It would be cheaper than buying your breakfast every morning. This is a cute little cabin for 2 my husband and I stayed in a couple of years ago:)

3rd: How are you going to get there? Obviously if your destination is around 3 hours away, the cheapest way to go is to drive. But you have many options of transportation! My best advice to you is to compare prices and decide what is best for you. Sometimes we decide to drive even if it is a great distance. (we are driving 16hrs to OKC in February:)) We decided to rent a van and car pool next month, so there will be a total of 10 of us driving together. It came out to around $80/person including gas for the transportation for the entire trip!

4th: What to do while your there.  This is my favorite part! And its the most simple. Before you leave, go online and google “free stuff to do in…” I know this sounds like I am giving a dumb step but this is how I do it!  I find the coolest places to go and things to do this way!GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERAHere is an example of how I would plan a cheap fun trip:

1. Where :  Maumee Bay near Lake Erie.

2. Lodging: Camping in Maumee Bay State Park. $27/night

3. Transportation: Driving (only 3hours away)

4.Things to do: We are going to stay from Mon-Fri.

Monday: We will be arriving this day so we will probably just do some exploring in town

Tuesday: Ottawa  National Wildlife Refuge for Bird Watching and  a picnic (free)

Wednesday: The Great Lakes Museum ($12/person) and  Sandpiper’s ($20/person) Dinner Cruise

Thursday: Hanging out at the state park, on the beach and maybe canoeing (free)

Friday: Toledo Museum of Art. On Friday’s they do free live entertainment! (free)

Total Cost: $172 for 2 people (since we will be cooking most of our meals, Im not including cost of food)

I hope this helped you guys a little!

Party Planning 101: Decorations

I love throwing parties!! Like Seriously LOVE! A couple weeks ago I threw my older sister’s baby shower and just this last week I had a Sugar Bowl Party. Its so much fun planning the activities and decorations and getting everyone together!

Today we are just going to focus on the decorations.

For both parties I made floating Tissue Paper Pom Poms.

perfect-sell-black-tissue-paper-pY2qG

These are super easy to make and add a lot to the atmosphere!

This is how I do them:

Supplies:

8 sheets of Tissue Paper

White Thread (you can use ribbon, but thread give the floating illusion)

1. make sure your tissue paper is the same size. Depending on the size on Pom Poms you want, you may want to cut the sheets of tissue paper. If I want smaller pom poms, I usually cut them in half and then in half again. So out of 8 sheets of regular sized Tissue, you get 4 pom poms. (I like this size best) If you want big ones just keep them the normal size.

2. line up your 8 sheets (cut or not) the Tissue will be rectangular. You want to be looking at the tissue like this:2x1-rectangleNow start at the bottom and make accordion folds all the way to the top.

3. Cut a long piece of tread and tie it around the center of the folded Tissue.

4. When your ready to hang them, carefully separate each layer of tissue. Make sure the thread stays in place.

5. Hang from the ceiling with a small piece of tape.

imagesCASRG0AMredI used Pink and Orange Tissue for My sister’s Shower and Red for the Sugar Bowl Party (We’re Ohio Sate fans!)

These Pom Poms were super easy to make and really cheap! I spent .88 on a pack of 20 sheets of tissue on sale at Target and I already had thread. I used about 4 packs for my sisters shower (the venue was kinda big) and I only used 8 sheets of tissue for the Sugar Bowl Party.

I will post more on decorations later this week!

M

Mens Wedding Fashion: the Tuxedo

The Classic Tuxedo. This is the default look for most grooms and their groomsman.

However,  there are many more options for our men. Our Grooms need to be able to share the spotlight on our special day.  And having options really lets them express themselves.

Upscale Black Tuxedo:

Now this is a much better option than the simple tuxedo, shown first. Most tuxedo rental companies offer a wide variety of upscale tuxedos at really reasonable prices. So don’t think its out of your budget. Shop around, find out whose got the best prices. You don’t have to buy the tux. Click Here for an article on renting vs. buying your wedding day tux.

The Ultra Formal Tux:

This is tuxedo is great for the fairytale wedding:) I think it looks best when the bride is in that beautiful Cinderella ballgown. Love it:)

The White Tux:

Ive seen a lot of men go for the white tuxedo, to match the wholesomeness of their bride-to-be. And this is actually a less expensive option. However the white tux isn’t as fashion-forward as I would like.

A Casual Option:

A lot of couples have chosen a more casual setting, giving a relaxed look and feel to their wedding. This khaki suit is a nice look, if that’s what your going for. Ive also seen the groom is a very light khaki pant and vest, but no jacket. Click Here to view one from J.Crew.

The Default Groomsman:

Many couples like the groomsman to match the bridesmaids in a very obvious way. There’s nothing wrong with that. But, its very common and expected. Around here, you can go to Davids Bridal for bridesmaids dresses and then to Men’s Warehouse and get an exact match in vests and ties for the groomsman. That’s great, and I think it works out in most weddings. However, we chose another option.

The Grey Tux:

This is the tuxedo that Quinton and I chose for him and all the groomsman to wear for our wedding. Grey has a really been our favorite. And I think the guys are going to look fantastic:) They will have on periwinkle ties, to coordinate with the bridesmaids.

Hope this was some how helpful:)

m:)

Invitation Photo Shoot

My fabulous fiance and I had to brave the cold on Sunday to have some photos done for our wedding invitation. I guess these double as our engagement pictures. But I would definitely like to get some more done soon.

These are the three we sent to our lovely invitation creator (probably not the proper title for her ha).

Here are some others I liked but not enough for our invitation

And we also got some good shots with my mom, my best friend and our best man:

Which one should we use for our invitations?? Of course all of them are raw and need editing, but Ill keep you updated as the invitaions come together:)
